ABOUT WESTERN SYDNEY VOLLEYBALL
Joe Al-Natour from Western Sydney Volleyball started volleyball competitions in the Western Sydney area in 1995 and has continued to bring the game of volleyball to the area. Many players of all ages and skill levels have joined in over the past 15 years to enjoy a great social game to both get fit and also have lots of fun socialising and meeting new friends.
WS Volleyball focuses not just on the competition side of volleyball but also on the social side which offers a great atmosphere that players look forward to and everyone counts the days until the next time they play. WS Volleyball has a great mix of players ranging in ages from 14 to 70 and ranging in skill levels from beginners to players with state and international experience. WS Volleyball uses the latest equipment, technology and coaching technics to get the best out of each player. Some just like to escape for an hour each week for some great fun while others want to improve their skills and take advantage of the advice and coaching of more experienced players. While we are constantly in touch with the FIVB rules and regulations we make some small changes to the rules to make it more fun and exciting for newer players.
WS vollyball runs bi-monthly representative competitions (The West Cup) where teams from different genders and skill levels compete in a weekend of volleyball focused on a more competitive and challenging atmosphere. The West Cup is one of the premier volleyball events and our local teams face up against other teams from around NSW and the ACT.
WS volleyball runs competitions on Wednesday and Monday evenings as well as a specialised workplace competition on Wednesday afternoons. The workplace competition started as a teachers competition but due to popular demand expanded to other workplaces. Competitions include mens, womens and mixed teams.
Coaching for coaches is also provided so that team coaches can learn some new technics and skills to pass onto their players so that the level of competition improves and we produce both better coaches and better players. WS Volleyball is especially committed to providing young players with training so they can develop skills and can represent us in the West Cup and other competitions. WS Volleyball sends a team to the ACT every year for the Good Neighbour competition and we have taken out first place 7 of the last 13 years.
WS Volleyball provides trained referees for each game and also provides training for refereeings who wish to improve their skills and start refereeing games.
